 chool day was\, he knows right away: Indigenous drum circle! In Kohkom’
 s First Drum\, Kohkom tells him that not very long ago she was gift
 ed her very first drum\, at a ceremony for children who never returned hom
 e from residential schools. Taken from her family when she was very littl
 e because of something called the Sixties Scoop\, she was raised by an ad
 optive white family\, and only later learned what being Cree meant. Char
 lie teaches her a song\, so they can play their drums together. This maste
 rclass for young readers with acclaimed children’s author Monique Gra
 y Smith will celebrate the activities that bring families and communities
  together\, and encourage readers to treat others with compassion. \nGr
