DESCRIPTION:This Indiginous Peoples' Day\n\nWe center the legacy and future
  of Urban Natives. From NYC to LA and every rez\, barrio\, and block in be
 tween\, we honor those who held it down in cities for our people: the Blac
 k Panthers\, AIM warriors\, Young Lords\, Chicano Movement\, aunties\, OGs
 \, street scholars\, and the first brick thrown at Stonewall. Their teachi
 ngs continue to guide us.\n\nWe recognize that borders are colonial\, and 
 we are still sovereign — we always have been. This celebration is about 
 presence\, resistance\, and power on stolen land. We move in love\, we mov
 e in protection\, and we’ve always moved together.\n\nYou are on Indigen
 ous land.\n\n⫸ Why It Matters\n\nIndigenous peoples live in every boroug
 h of New York City\, yet erasure fuels ongoing inequities in health\, hous
 ing\, education\, and representation. Despite centuries of displacement\, 
 surveillance\, and assimilation\, Urban Natives have always carried cultur
 e\, community\, and kinship forward.\n\n⫸ This event is more than a cele
 bration. It’s a:\n\nPlatform for visibility in a city where Indigenous p
 eoples are too often rendered invisible.\n\nSpace of cultural survival whe
 re traditions\, art\, and food are centered\, not erased.\n\nCatalyst for 
 action\, raising funds that directly support UIC’s year-round programs: 
 behavioral health services\, mentorship\, cultural healing\, and advocacy 
 for Indigenous rights.\n\nThis year’s celebration marks six years since 
 Urban Indigenous Collective first launched on Randall’s Island as part o
 f Indigenous Peoples Day NYC. Now in its 11th year\, Indigenous Peoples Da
 y NYC has been at the forefront of advocating for official recognition of 
 Indigenous Peoples Day in New York City\, carrying forward powerful legacy
  work rooted in community\, ceremony\, and resistance. From that foundatio
 n\, UIC has grown into a community-led organization building health\, well
 ness\, and cultural programming for Urban Natives across the city. Our ann
 iversary honors both the legacy of Indigenous Peoples Day NYC and the futu
 re of Urban Indigenous Collective.\n\n⫸ Impact of Last Year’s Event\n
 \nThanks to the incredible support from last year’s Indigenous Peoples D
 ay celebration\, UIC was able to:\n\nCreate a dedicated Wellness Room in o
 ur community space\n\nHire our first Indigenous therapist to provide cultu
 rally grounded care\n\nDesign our direct services program\, which will off
 icially roll out this winter\n\nYour participation makes real change possi
 ble. Every ticket\, donation\, and sponsorship helps us expand healing and
  wellness services for Urban Natives across the city.\n\n⫸ Activations &
  Highlights\n\nTraditional Indigenous Cuisine\n\nSample dishes rooted in I
 ndigenous food traditions\, prepared by Native chefs and food vendors.\n\n
 ⫸ Cultural + Creative Experiences\n\nLive Painting: Watch Indigenous pai
 nters create works in real time\, bringing stories of resilience\, land\, 
 and culture to life before your eyes.\n\nLive Protest Art Screen Printing 
 (with Relative Arts): Choose your own t-shirts design with artwork created
  in collaboration with Relative Arts — wearable resistance rooted in com
 munity.\n\nCollective Zine-Making Workshop: Collaborate with others to pro
 duce zines that uplift Indigenous voices\, visions\, and political educati
 on.\n\n90’s Resistance-Themed Photo Booth: Step into a reimagined 90’s
  set-up that celebrates urban Indigenous style\, legacy\, and rebellion.\n
 \n⫸ Political Education & Storytelling\n\nMicro-talks and teachings from
  movement elders\, cultural practitioners\, and scholars.\n\n⫸ Two Dance
  Floors\n\nHouse Room: Afro/Latin tribal house weaving sounds from the Ame
 ricas and the Caribbean\, featuring Indigenous dance troupes and dancers w
 ho bring ancient movement to the dance floor. This room is about embodied 
 connection — from the rez to the barrio to the borough.\n\nOnyx Room: Ce
 lebrating New York’s legacy of resistance\, the Onyx Room will showcase 
 old-school Hip Hop with a political edge\, featuring DJ Tony Touch. Betwee
 n sets\, the space will uplift political education moments\, grounding the
  music in stories of struggle\, liberation\, and survival.\n\n⫸ Marketpl
 ace & Vendors\n\nExplore Indigenous artisans sharing beadwork\, jewelry\, 
 clothing\, herbal remedies\, and art.\n\n⫸ Wellness Offerings\n\nBody wo
