 vierkonzert bringt eine betont pastorale Note\, ein Durchatmen\, es ist vo
 n eigenwilliger luzider Schönheit und naturnaher Spiritualität. Und dami
 t eine Gegenkraft zu Strauss’ »Zarathustra«: Hier trumpft einer mit Po
 tenz und berstend vor Selbstbewusstsein auf. Von klanglicher Opulenz\, sag
 t die in München aufgewachsene Deutsch-Kolumbianerin Anna Handler\, dürf
 e man sich aber als Dirigentin nicht überwältigen lassen: Bei Strauss m
 üsse man »diejenige sein\, die den Überblick behält\, wie ein Pilot im
  Sturm\, und sicherstellen\, dass jedes Detail hörbar bleibt.« Einen beh
 erzten Zugriff verlangt auch das als deutsche Erstaufführung präsentiert
 e Orchesterwerk »The Rock You Stand On« von John Adams: Der Komponist\, 
 seit Jahrzehnten unter den meistaufgeführten Zeitgenossen weltweit\, spri
 cht von »kraftvollen\, pulsierenden Rhythmen«\, die sich »zu rockigen S
 ynkopen verwandeln«\, und von einem »jazzigen Puls«\, der aus dem Orche
 ster eine Big Band macht. \n\nKonzertdauer: ca. 115 Minuten  – inklusive
  Pause\n___________\n\nStrauss’s music is »high-performance sport for t
 he orchestra«\, says conductor Anna Handler. Then\, to stick with the pic
 ture\, »Thus Spoke Zarathustra« is the piece with the most striking star
 ter’s gun. It is Béla Bartók\, of all people\, who provides some respi
 te in this program\, performed by »Artist in Residence« Kirill Gerstein.
  \n \nYes\, Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 brings a distinctly pastoral 
 touch\, a moment to catch one’s breath\; it possesses an idiosyncratic\,
  lucid beauty and a spirituality rooted in nature. And thus serves as a co
 unterpoint to Strauss’s »Zarathustra«: Here\, one triumphs with power 
 and brimming self-confidence. But as a conductor\, one must not let onesel
 f be overwhelmed by sonic opulence\, says Anna Handler\, a German-Colombia
 n who grew up in Munich: With Strauss\, one must »be the one who keeps th
 e overview\, like a pilot in a storm\, and ensure that every detail remain
 s audible.« John Adams’ orchestral work »The Rock You Stand On«\, pre
 sented here in its German premiere\, also demands a bold approach: The com
 poser\, who has been among the most frequently performed contemporary comp
 osers worldwide for decades\, speaks of »powerful\, pulsating rhythms« t
 hat »transform into rock-style syncopations\,« and of a »jazzy pulse«
