DESCRIPTION:The GSS Effective Communication Coaching Program helps graduate
  students communicate with greater confidence and effectiveness across the
 ir academic\, professional\, and personal lives.\nThrough interactive work
 shops and hands-on practice\, participants will learn what coaching is and
  how to apply a coaching mindset\, core communication skills\, and a simpl
 e framework to real conversations with supervisors\, colleagues\, peers\, 
 and family.\nParticipants will leave the program with stronger communicati
 on skills\, practical tools for navigating everyday challenges\, and meani
 ngful connections with fellow graduate students—building a coaching tool
 kit they can carry forward into graduate life and their future careers.\nD
 uring the Program\, Students Will\n● Gain a foundational understanding o
 f what coaching is and what it can mean in graduate school\, work\, and pe
 rsonal life.\n● Develop and apply essential coaching skills\, such as ac
 tive listening\, powerful questioning\, and presence\, in everyday convers
 ations.\n● Learn a simple coaching framework and apply it to real academ
 ic and career situations.\n● Practice coaching through real graduate-lif
 e\, scenario-based labs\, exploring challenges such as managing deadlines
 \, navigating supervisor relationships\, and preparing for job interviews.
 \n● Build meaningful connections within the GSS student community while 
 experiencing both individual and group coaching.\n● Create a personal 
 “coaching toolkit” to carry forward into graduate life and beyond.\nBy
  the end of the program\, students will leave with practical skills they c
 an apply immediately—whether it’s having clearer conversations with a 
 supervisor\, supporting a classmate under pressure\, or approaching career

 y to receive a complimentary one-on-one coaching session with a coach on a
  topic of their choice. The coaching session will support participants in 
 addressing a challenge they are facing while also allowing them to gain fi
 rst-hand experience as a coachee.\nEach participant also has the opportuni
 ty to join a monthly group coaching session with the GSS Coaching Communit
 y to learn\, share\, and grow together with their peers while furthering a
 nd enhancing their coaching skills.\nMeet Your Coach: Lily Gu\n\nLily is a
  Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federa
 tion (ICF) and holds an Advanced Certification in Team Coaching (ACTC). As
  a certified organizational and leadership coach\, she partners with indiv
 iduals and groups to build leadership capacity and navigate change with co
 nfidence and ease.\nLily holds a Master of Engineering and a Master of Edu
 cation from UBC. She currently serves as an associate coach with the Coach
 ing@UBC program\, a mentor coach with the Certificate in Organizational Co
 aching program\, and a leadership development coach with several other org
 anizations.\nBefore becoming a professional coach\, Lily worked for more t
 han 20 years in higher education and IT\, bringing extensive experience in
