DESCRIPTION:Join Land In Our Names for Autumn Equinox\, a celebration of c
 ommunity heritage at London's last functioning windmill. This event is by 
 and centres people from the global majority (Black and People of Colour)\,
  so members of those communities are especially encouraged to attend. LION
 's celebration of community heritage builds transnational solidarity throu
 gh shared learning across borders and generations. The family-friendly day
  of learning will include:Creative migration and culture workshops by food
  historian Mama D and artist/researcher Jacob V JoyceFolk Music Circle Led
  by Calliope (bring instruments\, your voice\, and songs to share. )A free
  community meal Creative activities and crafts Seed Swap & Tea Blend Makin
 gA live performance by artist Nadeem Din Gabisi This event is by and centr
 es people of the global majority\, so members of those communities are esp
 ecially encouraged to attend. Come hungry and leave fed. This event is par
 t of the National Trust's Heritage Open Days Festival. The National Trust 
 are one of the biggest landowners in Britain and many of their properties 
 have ties to colonial wealth. This event will confront these histories and
  make space for grief and transformation through creativity\, music and co
 mmunity Land In Our Names (LION) functions as an ecosystem builder\, creat
 ing opportunities for Black and People of Colour (BPOC) to connect with th
 e land\, with nature and with each other. We hold workshops and events for
  BPOC to skill-share\, strategise and build networks of mutual aid and sol
 idarity. Brixton Windmill is London's last functioning windmill. Built in 
 1816\, the mill uses the same millstones that were used in 1902 to grind f
 lour. Windmill Gardens also hosts the Brixton Windmill Centre. Built by La
 mbeth Council next to the windmill and leased to the Friends of Brixton Wi
 ndmill\, the centre opened early in 2020 and is used as a visitor centre\,
  education space\, and a community venue. Nadeem Din-Gabisi is a storytell
 er working in the realms of music\, poetry and the visual arts. His work c
 hannels his experiences as a British born\, second generation immigrant of
  Sierra Leonean Krio descent. Nadeem's debut album OFFSHORE out now on Mos
 hi Moshi Music tackles themes of belonging\, estrangement and identity wit
 h 'potent streams of consciousness'.Calliope are an experimental\, multi-i
 nstrumental folk collective that takes its inspiration from folk tradition
 s of the black diasporic transatlantic world\, blending trad tunes\, ances
 tral musical traditions and cosmic modernity.Jacob V Joyce is a multidisci
 plinary artist whose practice amplifies historical and nourishes new queer
  and anti-colonial narratives. Their work is continually grounded by colla
 borations and conversations with activists\, community groups and archives
 . Supported by C.R.E.A.M (The Center for Research in Education and Arts Me
 dia) Joyce is currently a doctoral research candidate exploring the practi
 cal applications of historical African heritage education movements.Mama D
  Ujuaje is a food and social justice activist and a social and community j
 ustice facilitator and trainer and also a curator of immersive experiences
 : The Food Journey\, The London Journey and others which support citizen a
 ccess to agency and voice. She researches\, informally\, on what it means 
 to operate collectively and on a community basis in terms of social and cu
 ltural modalities of community experience and shared cosmovisions of justi
 ce and balance in a changing world. She champions community based research

 ton Windmill is situated in a small park called Windmill Gardens at the we
 st end of Blenheim Gardens\, Brixton Hill (A23) 1 mile south of Brixton. I
 t’s a 20-minute walk from Brixton Underground and rail stations\, or the
  45\, 59\, 109\, 133\, 159\, 250 and 333 buses run from Brixton up Brixton
  Hill (alight at Blenheim Gardens). Clapham North Underground and Streatha
 m Hill rail stations are also nearby (both 1.2 miles away). Bicycles can b
 e parked in Windmill Gardens. There is no car park and limited parking in 
 nearby roads (free at the weekend). If travelling in a vehicle northbound 
 down Brixton Hill\, there is no left turn into Blenheim Gardens\; take the
  next left into St Saviour’s Road\, turn left again into Halliwell Road\
 , and Blenheim Gardens is at the end. Going southbound\, you can turn righ
