SUMMARY:Paper Puppet Collage Workshop

DESCRIPTION:Jack Blaxhall - In this workshop you’re invited to create a 
 little cast of fantasy characters in the form of articulated paper puppets
 ! A variety of templates will be provided for you to build the outline of 
 your puppet\, as well as materials for creating your own shapes and forms 
 if you choose. After you’ve made the silhouette\, you’ll have a host o
 f pattern sheets and photographs from which you can collage the clothing a
 nd features of your character as well as illustrated faces\, hands\, cloth
 ing\, wings\, and other fantasy features to add to your designs.This sessi
 on is all about the creative potential of collage\; how you can adapt exis
 ting imagery in unconventional ways to express your vision\, and spark ima
 gination. Flower petals become skirts\, painted tiles become embroidered b
 rocades\, a tangle of electrical wire becomes a nest of curly hair\, a dec
 orative button becomes a halo. You are encouraged to get weird with it! Co
 llage is a great way to start thinking laterally about art\, and improve y
 our powers of abstraction. An oft repeated aphorism is that 90% of art is 
 observation\, and my hope is that this workshop will help you to train you
 r eye towards slowing down and deconstructing the visual world that surrou
 nds us all into the components for something new.This event is open to eve
 ryone and suitable for all ages. All materials will be provided\, and you
