  embracing innovation\, McQueen-Tokita reimagines new possibilities for th
 e koto by treating it as an instrument for sonic discovery\, rather than s
 olely for melodic performance\, and redefines the koto’s role in contemp
 orary music\, expanding its repertoire and artistic potential.\nIn this ei
 ghth edition of the PARALLELS series\, McQueen-Tokita leads Both and Neith
 er\, a multi-day project that concludes with a live performance at the ANN
 EX. Combining koto and an ensemble of local vocalists from the Nikkei comm
 unity\, this project emphasizes collaboration\, cultural exchange\, and pr
 ocess-based creation unfolding through workshops\, rehearsals\, and a fina
 l performance.\nVNM’s PARALLELS series brings internationally renowned a
 rtists together with local musicians to create new works that are specific
