Und was kann da besser p assen als Mahlers »Erste«\, ein Werk an der Schnittstelle zwischen spät romantischem Großklang und atemberaubend aktuell wirkender Radikalität? \nDoch natürlich lässt die Musik von heute die finnische Dirigentin nich t los. So kombiniert sie Mahlers plastisch-kühne 1. Sinfonie mit einem We rk\, das von letzten Dingen spricht\, ganz wörtlich\, von Sinn und Bedeut ung des menschlichen Lebens\, von Tod und Stille. Ihr Trompetenkonzert HUS H erwies sich als Kaija Saariahos Vermächtnis: Susanna Mälkki dirigierte 2023 die posthume Uraufführung\, an der Trompete damals wie auch nun ihr Landsmann Verneri Pohjola. Als »wirklich stark atmosphärisch und ergrei fend« beschreibt er das Werk\, in dem er gleichsam die »Stimme der Kompo nistin« sei. And what could be more fitting than Mahler's »Fir st«\, a work at the intersection of late Romantic grandeur and breathtaki ngly contemporary radicalism?\nBut of course\, today's music still holds s way over the Finnish conductor. She combines Mahler's vivid and bold First Symphony with a work that speaks of final things\, quite literally\, of t he meaning and significance of human life\, of death and silence. Her trum pet concerto HUSH proved to be Kaija Saariaho's legacy: Susanna Mälkki co nducted the posthumous premiere in 2023\, with her compatriot Verneri Pohj ola on trumpet then as now.
