SUMMARY:Tavistock Centre Burial Grounds
LOCATION:Tavistock Visitor Information Centre
DESCRIPTION:A HERITAGE OPEN DAYS EVENT presented byTavistock Local History
Society - Tavistock Town Centre Burial Grounds Walk led by Tony Vigars me
eting outside the Guildhall. We know very little about the very beginnings
of Tavistock before the establishmentof Abbey in the late 900s. There is t
he site of a very early enclosure\, called theTrendle\, in the grounds of
Mount Kelly School to the east and to the south there is aproperty called
Walreddon – which means “community of the Welshmen” – theseplaces
indicate that there were Celtic settlements in the vicinity before the Rom
anscame to Britain. Go onto Dartmoor and there are numerous remains of enc
losures\,round houses and cairns where the dead were buried. During this w
alk we will trace the history of Tavistock by where the dead have been bur
ied over the past 1500years.\n\nBoletos: https://wegottickets.com/event/70
