SUMMARY:An evening with The Luke Daniels Trio at Cafe No9
LOCATION:Sheffield Cafe No9
DESCRIPTION:- Luke Daniels consistently strives to reimagine what folk mus
ic can be — from his debut composition The Lost Music of the Gaels to hi
s recent solo songs album Old Friends and Exhausted Enemies. Always innova
ting\, Revolve and Rotate saw Luke travelling to the Folk Alliance confere
nce in Kentucky with a a unique musical instrument called the ‘Electroph
on’. Inspired by a c1880 polyphon machine\, he built the Electrophon to
combine traditional source material\, with digital and midi time code to c
reate new instrumental music and songs on 20” steel discs. As a multi-ins
trumentalist (melodeon\, button accordion and guitar)\, and as a singer/so
ngwriter Luke’s signature style and elegant song-writing has graced stag
e and studio at home and abroad. In the company of Mark Radcliffe\, The Lo
ndon Philharmonic Orchestra\, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull\, Chris Wood\, L
au\, Cara Dillon\, Jon Boden of Bellowhead and toured North America as a m
ember of the internationally renowned Riverdance Band.Bellows to the Heart
h brings together a unique suite of compositions\, inspired by Luke’s de
dicated path in folk music which took him to Europe\, North America and th
e Middle East. Many of these new works were crafted by the fireside during
the lockdown years\, they explore the roots of folk traditions in Irish a
nd Scots trad and the origins of the dancehall traditions of Boston and Ne
wfoundland which have shaped and grown the tradition today.“A remarkable
songwriter and musician with the touch of the alchemist.” Folk Radio UK
“Nothing short of sublime\, lyrics and music of the highest calibre.”
