 nce in the back***)\nAbstract:\nIn high seismic regions\, traditional stab
 ilities analyses and assessment of factors of safety are not sufficient to
  assess the potential seismic performance of a structure. Instead\, deform
 ation analyses are recommended to evaluate the potential response to seism
 ic loading\, assess liquefaction susceptibility\, and estimate the distrib
 ution of displacements within an earthfill dam or tailings storage facilit
 y. This presentation will showcase an assessment for a tailings storage fa
 cility in South America\, where we estimated the seismic loading\, and com
 pleted deformation modelling to evaluate the expected performance given a 
 significant seismic event and used the analysis results to design key comp
 onents of the TSF.\nBio:\nVicki Nguyen\, P.Eng.\, is Senior Geotechnical E
 ngineer at the Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd in Calgary\, AB. She has over 15 y
 ears of experience and has led probabilistic and deterministic seismic haz
 ard assessments and deformation models in FLAC 2D and 3D to assess and des
 ign slope stabilization measures\, estimate seismic deformations\, and cal
 ibrate model parameters based on field and instrumentation data for tailin
 gs facilities\, dam structures\, and slope stabilization projects around t
 he world. Notable projects include 2D seismic deformation modelling and se
 ismic hazard assessments for sites in Ecuador\, Peru\, the Dominican Repub
 lic\, and Papua New Guinea that are subject to significant seismic loading
