DESCRIPTION:Needlebound is an annual print publication archiving the online
  fiber arts community. Volume 3\, Thread Geographies\, collects work from 
 40 contributors around a single question: how can fibre measure space toda
 y?For millennia\, land was measured with fibre. Egyptian surveyors were kn
 own as "rope-stretchers" because they pulled knotted cords taut between st
 akes. But rope stretched when wet and tightened in the sun\, so a meadow m
 easured in April and again in August could produce two different answers. 
 Neither was wrong. Each recorded the field as it existed on a particular d
 ay.In 1620\, the mathematician Edmund Gunter replaced the cord with a sixt
 y-six-foot iron chain\, which held its length through rain and heat. It ma
 de land legible to law and to markets. It also required agreeing that a pl
 ace is a quantity\, and that the day you measure it does not matter.Four c
 enturies later\, technology has inherited that agreement. A phone counts o
 ur steps precisely\, but not why we move through a place\, what we felt wh
 ile we were there\, or what makes one stretch of ground matter more than a
 nother.The artists in Volume 3 take the rope's position\, treating variabi
 lity as information rather than error and using fibre to measure memory\, 
 movement\, and attachment to place as forms of spatial knowledge.The eveni
 ng opens with a Q&A with founder and editorial director Hayley Mortin (Daz
 y Chains)\, followed by readings from several Volume 3 contributors. All t
