SUMMARY:Thomas McCarthy/Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne
LOCATION:Alder Bar
DESCRIPTION:A regular at the 'old' Musical Traditions Club\, we are very p
leased to offer this new date for Thomas McCarthy\, rescheduled from March
  2026. Thomas says: "I sing wherever I’m invited\, at clubs\, festivals\
 , people’s houses\, weddings\, funerals\, christenings\, at home\, down
the road and over the sea. I have sung all over the UK and Europe. I have
sung at festivals including Whitby Folk Week\, Sidmouth FolkWeek\, the Fif
e Traditional Singing Festival\, Brosella Folk & Jazz Festival (Belgium)\,
the South Roscommon Singers festival (Knockcroghery) and the Frank Harte
Festival (Dublin) – where I shared a stage with Christy Moore.” I have
been invited to folk clubs including the Cellar Upstairs\, Walthamstow Fo
lk Club\, the Musical Traditions club and the An Goilin club in Dublin. I
have toured with Ron Kavana and Sam Lee\, all around England\, Scotland\,
Wales and Europe." Described in The Living Tradition as ‘captivating\, b
old and striking’\, Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne is at the forefront of hi
s generation of English folk musicians as both a powerful and commanding s
inger and a masterful player of the Anglo concertina and melodeon. Cohen
’s music is rooted in the English folk tradition\, celebrating the age-o
ld musical heritage of this broad and diverse land. Traditional ballads\,
songs and tunes form the basis of Cohen’s material\, but with a smatteri
ng of early music\, ragtime\, and music hall thrown in for good measure al
ong with regular forays into the music of the Caribbean. Cohen has release
d three critically acclaimed solo albums\; his debut Outway Songster (2017
) was described in fRoots as ‘the best debut album by a young British pe
rformer for many a day’ and led to Cohen being nominated for the Horizon
Award for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2018. Rakes & M
isfits (2021) followed with Cohen exploring songs and stories of social ou
tcasts and reprobates. In 2024 Cohen released his ground-breaking Play Up
The Music which explores the little-known connection between English folk
and the music of the Caribbean and Black America. The album received wides
pread critical acclaim along with national airplay\, an extensive feature
in The Guardian and landed Cohen with a slot on BBC 1.\n\nBoletos: https:/
