  at home yet\, so our comedians began to build it independently. Pushing b
 ack against cultural conservatism\, media control\, and national modesty\,
  they invented a new and distinctly Canadian kind of comedy—sly\, smart
  and subversive\, character-driven and absurdist\, and quietly revolution
