 fonie Nr. 1\, die gerne auch als »Beethovens 10.« bezeichnet wird – wi
 e passend\, im Beethoven-Kontext dieses Programms\, in dem auch György Ku
 rtág gestenreich auf Beethoven verweist. \n»Was mir bei Brahms wichtig e
 rscheint\, ist diese innere Energie\, die in den langsamen Sätzen mitunte
 r zurückhaltend\, ja fast schüchtern wirkt – aber von extremer struktu
 reller Intensität ist«\, so Alain Altinoglu. »Nichts ist rein dekorativ
 : Jedes Motiv\, jeder Übergang hat Bedeutung«. Das geflügelte Wort von 
 »Beethovens 10.« findet er historisch verständlich – die Tonart c-Mol
 l\, der Weg vom Dunkel ins Licht\, dazu die monumentale Architektur –\, 
 »aber es wäre ungerecht\, dieses Werk nur auf diese Verwandtschaft zu re
 duzieren. Die Sinfonie besitzt eine höchst persönliche Stimme\, durch ih
 re Rhythmik\, ihre kontrapunktische Dichte und durch eine gewisse metaphys
 ische Ausdruckskraft.« »Artist in Residence« Kirill Gerstein wird Beeth
 ovens 3. Klavierkonzert György Kurtágs »…quasi una fantasia…« für
  Klavier und Orchester voranstellen\, eine mit Anspielungen jonglierende B
 eethoven-Reverenz des ungarischen Komponisten. \n\nKonzerteinführung: 18

 tor Alain Altinoglu. The cycle now comes to an end with Symphony No. 1\, o
 ften referred to as »Beethoven’s 10th« – how fitting\, given the Bee
 thoven context of this program\, in which György Kurtág also makes numer
 ous references to Beethoven.\n»What strikes me as important in Brahms is 
 this inner energy\, which in the slow movements sometimes seems restrained
 \, almost shy – but which is of extreme structural intensity«\, says Al
 ain Altinoglu. »Nothing is purely decorative: every motif\, every transit
 ion has meaning.« He finds the popular phrase »Beethoven's 10th« is his
 torically understandable – the key of C minor\, the path from darkness t
 o light\, plus the monumental architecture – »but it would be unfair to
  reduce this work to this connection alone. The symphony has a highly pers
 onal voice\, through its rhythm\, its counterpoint density\, and a certain
  metaphysical expressiveness.« Artist in residence Kirill Gerstein will p
 recede Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with György Kurtág's »...quasi 
 una fantasia...« for piano and orchestra\, a Beethoven homage by the Hung
