 her.\n\nThere aren't many books you can finish in one sitting\, without sa
 crificing your entire day. But The Lady with the Dog\, the new novella by 
 Stella Prize-winning author Carrie Tiffany\, is one of them. Out October 1
 \, the 93-page novella is beautifully illustrated by Noel McKenna and is\,
  quite simply\, a gorgeous little book.\n\nLoosely inspired by Carrie’s 
 observations of her mother and stepfather in their final months\, The Lady
  with the Dog is a deeply moving\, poetic story about a woman living with 
 Alzheimer’s\, her devoted but unwell husband\, and the dog they have rec
 ently adopted. As her condition worsens\, the dog becomes both companion a
 nd symbol\, an anchor to the world around her.\n\nIt is funny\, poignant\,
  elegant and expansive. Katie adored it and\, despite being a slow-ish rea
 der\, inhaled it with a pot of tea in about 45 minutes.\n\nSo we're going 
 to read it together. On Tuesday 6 October\, you'll collect your copy of Th
 e Lady with the Dog\, settle into the shop and spend 60 uninterrupted minu
 tes reading it from cover to cover. We'll provide tea and biscuits\, or wi
 ne if that's more your speed.\n\nThen Carrie will join us to talk about th
 e book\, answer your questions and share something of the experience of wr
 iting it.\n\nA reading party\, followed by a conversation with the person 
 who made the thing you're all sitting there quietly reading. We can't thin
 k of a better way to spend an evening.\n\nLogistics things:\nWe have chair
 s with backs\, stools and floor cushions here at the shop. You can choose
 \, whatever suits you best. \n\nIts 93 pages share space with whimsical il
 lustrations and is structured mostly from paragraph-sized pieces of text. 
 Readable in 60 minutes for even the slower readers amongst us!\n\nDon't wa
 nt to read it in the bookshop? You can either pick up your copy from Octob
 er 1\, or collect it on the evening and take it to a neighbouring bar or r
 estaurant to be in a different kind of silence. If you're comfortable to\,
  we really do recommend reading it collaboratively\, or at least in its en
 tirety in one sitting\, to fully immerse yourself in the magic of Carrie's
  words.\n\nAbout the author\n\nCARRIE TIFFANY was born in West Yorkshire a
 nd grew up in Western Australia. Her first novel\, Everyman’s Rules for 
 Scientific Living\, was shortlisted for the Orange Prize\, the Miles Frank
 lin Literary Award\, the Guardian First Book Award and the Commonwealth Wr
 iters’ Prize\, and won the Dobbie Award for Best First Book and the WA P
 remier’s Award for Fiction. Her second novel\, Mateship with Birds\, was
  the winner of the inaugural Stella Prize and the NSW Premier’s Literary
  Award for fiction. Her third novel\, Exploded View\, was shortlisted for 
 the Miles Franklin Literary Award and won the Queensland Fiction Book Awar
