 f the exposed brick and subterranean nature of the gallery\, Garden Apartm
 ent decorates the room in a way that compliments what is present\, to make
  the most of what is usually the less desirable. So named for the affectio
 nate term name for a basement unit\, this is a room that is decorated with
 out taking its architecture out of mind. The materials are in dialogue\, t
 hough sometimes they stand to contrast one another. A basement dwelling is
 n’t often the most desirable\, but it has the ability to be a sanctuary 
 — intimate\, and free from the distractions of the busy world above.\n\n
 Here\, the artwork has become like furniture\, or roommates. A painting th
 at feels like the centerpiece above the mantle. Tile and ceramic work brin
 gs to mind a bathroom. But they hang on the wall\, freeing up our real est
 ate. Out of our way\, they don’t impose themselves but are nevertheless 
 a treat for those who stop for more than a glance. For the length of the e
