A prolific recording artist\, composer and arranger\, he has enjoyed a d istinguished career spanning more than four decades\, earning widespread a cclaim for his warm tone\, effortless swing\, and engaging stage presence. Equally at home in straight-ahead jazz and mainstream traditions\, Alan h as performed with many of the world's leading jazz artists\, including Hum phrey Lyttelton\, Stan Tracey\, John Dankworth\, Kenny Davern\, Scott Hami lton and Warren Vaché. His outstanding contribution to British jazz has b een recognised with numerous honours\, including multiple British Jazz Awa rds and the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year.
