SUMMARY:Jaimee Harris (USA)
LOCATION:Hertford Backroads House Concerts
DESCRIPTION:- Over recent years\, numerous people have told me how much th
ey would really like to see Jaimee Harris headlining her own gig rather th
an supporting her partner Mary Gauthier. Well it's finally happening\, and
  it's happening here in Hertford!Harris’s sophomore effort\, Boomerang T
own marks a bold step forward for this country-folk-leaning singer-songwri
ter. It is an arresting\, ambitious song-cycle that explores the generatio
nal arc of family\, the stranglehold of addiction\, and the fragile ties t
hat bind us together.Boomerang Town traces the fortunes of a host of chara
cters who live on the knife’s edge between hope and despair. The title t
rack\, whose sound recalls the best of Mary Chapin Carpenter’s ’90s wo
 rk\, features a young couple from a small-town working dead-end jobs who g
et “knocked up” and have their dreams put on hold. It is a portrait of
rural desperation and the restless search for salvation against long odds
. “This is what it’s like to be a part of the post- “‘Born To Run
’ Generation\,” Harris quips. “Springsteen’s generation had somewh
ere to run to. I’m not so sure mine does.” For the characters in these
  songs\, escape isn’t always a matter of geographical distance.Boomerang
Town is not entirely a lament\, however\, with songs like “Love is Gonn
a Come Again” and the wistful “Missing Someone” shining with hope in
the face of the darkness. For this is a record that understands that love
and grief are two sides of the same coin. It also announces the arrival o
f a great new songwriter on the scene. “My goal is to just write the bes
 t possible song I can write\,” Harris says\, “and I wanted to have 10
songs that made sense together sonically. I still believe in the album for
mat\, and I wanted to lay the groundwork as a solid songwriter.” On Boom
erang Town\, Jaimee Harris\, who was able to find her way out — unlike s
 o many others — has accomplished all that\, and much more.\n\nBoletos: h
