 up’s 90-minute performance of his new project Mercy We Need lifts prayer

  Reid is an artist-theologian from Chicago whose work invites us to rejoic
 e\, lament\, and hope together. A graduate of Chicago’s Whitney M. Young
  High School\, Yale University\, and Candler School of Theology at Emory U
 niversity\, Julian is a pianist\, composer\, producer\, speaker\, and writ
 er. His newest album\, Mercy We Need (September 2026)\, is a jazz and gosp
 el project that lifts our collective prayers during these uncertain times.
  Julian’s compositions and performances are emotionally dynamic\, drawin
 g from the worlds of Robert Glasper\, Richard Smallwood\, and Herbie Hanco
 ck. This concert will also include selections from his prior release\, Voc
 ation (2025). Julian’s Circle of Trust includes Tramaine Parker (vocals)
 \, Lenard Simpson (sax)\, Ethan Philion (bass)\, James Russell Sims (drums
 )\, and Keisha Janae (dance).\n\nA former member of Isaiah Collier & The C
 hosen Few\, Julian has performed across North America and Europe at events
  including the Jazz at Lincoln Center\, Montreal Jazz Fest\, Lollapalooza
 \, and the Berlin Jazz Fest. He has also created with Jennifer Hudson\, Ch
 ance the Rapper\, Tank and the Bangas\, Andrew Bird\, Jamila Woods\, Derri
 ck Hodge\, Keyon Harrold\, Kenneth Whalum\, Nat Reeves\, and Abiodun Oyewo
 le from The Last Poets.\n\nAn award-winning writer\, Julian shares about h
 is journey as an artist-theologian on his Substack “Julian’s Note.” 
 He has published essays in several books\, including the award-winning Nam
 ing the Spirit: Pneumatology through the Arts (2025). In 2021\, Julian fou
 nded Notes of Rest\, a project in contemplative spirituality that offers a
 n integrated approach to faith\, restfulness\, and Black music. Julian’s
  work as musician and faith leader has been covered by the Chicago-Sun Tim
 es\, Jazz Institute of Chicago\, New York Times\, Forbes\, Sojourners\, Bi
 llboard\, and DownBeat. He lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter\n\n
