DESCRIPTION:Summary:The Erie Canal Museum will be offering several walking 
 tours during the summer and fall months of 2026.All Syracuse walking tours
  move through urban districts\, which include both paved and step free sur
 faces\, as well as mild slope and cross slope in certain sections. Many of
  our tours have rest areas\, or places to sit\, half way through. Please b

 Walking Tour - 6/5\, 6/26\, 7/8\, 8/7\, 8/22\, 8/29\, 9/4\, 9/5\, 9/12\, 9
 /18\, 9/19\, 9/26Join us for this guided walking tour of historic Downtown
  Syracuse\, exploring how the Erie Canal shaped all aspects of the communi
 ty\, and seeing how the neighborhood has changed since the days when the w
 aterway was its centerpiece. This tour begins in the lobby of the Erie Can
 al Museum and involves about a half mile of walking. This tour was previou
 sly called the Downtown Architecture Tour.Women on the Water Walking Tour 
 - 6/6\, 7/10\, 7/31\, 8/14This 1 mile-long guided tour between Clinton Squ
 are and Fayette Park includes stops at many sites of significant events in
  the fight for women's rights\, with a special focus on Syracuse residents
 ' contributions to the suffrage movement along the Canal. This tour begins
  in the lobby of the Erie Canal Museum and involves about a mile of walkin
 g.Baldwinsville Lock E24 Infrastructure Tour - 6/13\, 7/11\, 8/8This walki
 ng tour will focus on the social history of Baldwinsville\, infrastructure
  of the lock and the Erie Barge canal\, as well as earlier attempts at imp
 roving the Seneca River for transportation. This tour will begin in the Ba
 ldwinsvilleVillage Square AKA Baldwin Canal Park\, located between the B'v
 ille Diner and the Seneca River. It will include about a half mile of walk
 ing. American Sign Language Interpretation will be available on this tour.

 Walking Tour - 6/19\, 7/3\, 7/24\, 8/15\, 10/3This tour examines African-A
 merican experiences on and along the banks of the Erie Canal\, from the wa
 terway's beginnings to contemporary times. This tour begins in the lobby o
 f the Erie Canal Museum and includes about a half mile of walking.Burned O
 ver: The Erie Canal and Fire Walking Tour - 6/20\, 7/17\, 8/1\, 8/21Join t
 he Erie Canal Museum for this mile-long walk through Downtown Syracuse exa
 mining how fires along the Erie Canal\, both literal and figurative\, shap
 ed the city and state that we know today. This tour begins in the lobby of
  the Erie Canal Museum and includes about a half mile of walking.Newark Lo
 ck E28B Infrastructure Tour - 6/27\, 7/25This walking tour will showcase t
 he historic infrastructure of Lock E28B in Newark\, NY and discuss how loc
 ks across New York State serve as living museums. American Sign Language i
 nterpretation will be available on this tour.These tours are part of On th
 e Canals programming.Detailed Accessibility Information:The walking tours 
 move through an urban district\, over paved and step-free surfaces\, with 
 some sidewalk inconsistencies. These inconsistencies include slopes betwee
 n 0 and 3 degrees\, throughout\, and a cross slope of up to 4 degrees for 
 approximately two blocks. Syracuse tours typically have a bench at the hal
 fway point. The walk leader uses a portable audio system\, that you may re
 quest earbud receivers for\, to enhance the audio experience. If you have
