SUMMARY:VLMLV plus Winter at Sea
LOCATION:London The Camden Club
DESCRIPTION:- VLMV are an ambient-ish post-something duo from London. Pete
Lambrou\, the visionary composer and multi-instrumentalist behind VLMV (p
ronounced “Alma”)\, is one of the most singular voices emerging from t
he ambient\, post-rock\, and experimental scenes in the UK. With a career
that spans atmospheric solo work\, film and television scoring\, and evoca
tive live performance\, Lambrou has carved out a distinctive sonic univers
e he describes as “ambient-ish post-something” (Pete Lambrou) a playfu
l yet accurate summation of a sound that is at once genre-fluid and deeply
immersive.VLMV embody an emotional honesty that works with patience and n
uance. Whether you’re encountering his music for the first time or retur
ning to its quiet depths\, VLMV offers an aural space that resonates long
after the final note fades. Lambrou’s singular sonic language sits at th
 e intersection of ambient\, post-rock\, modern classical\, and experimenta
l electronic music\, while remaining unmistakably human at its core.'Build
ing atmospheric and quietly epic soundscapes that creep up on you unannoun
ced….like a beam of light through a dark\, cold night’ - Lauren Lavern
e BBC6 MusicWINTER AT SEA are an entity torn between nostalgia and the age
of streaming and social media\; lost in the storm yet proudly defiant of
modern day engagement and promotion. They do not use social media\, prefer
ring to engage with their listeners in person and by mailing list. They ar
e a band that favour the tangible touch of CD\, tape\, vinyl and hand-prin
ted packaging over modern streaming platforms. Their influences come from
the DIY ethos of the groundbreaking post-rock artists and labels of the 19
 90s – Godspeed You! Black Emperor\, Mogwai\, and Tortoise\, and labels i
ncluding Constellation\, Rock Action\, and Kranky. “We’ve been inspire
d by the spirit of ’90s post-rock\,” confirms Chris Chapman\, the de f
acto captain of this ship\; “not just the music but the sense of freedom
\, experimentation and contrariness.” Born as a studio project in 2020\,
Winter At Sea hone a pass-the-parcel approach to recording where Chapman\
, alongside engineer Grant Light\, lay down the groundwork of a compositio
n and then invite fellow collaborators to record their own parts remotely\
, joining them in person when possible. These travels went as far north as
Manchester\, where the drums were recorded by acclaimed producer and Pijn
guitarist\, Joe Clayton at No Studio. These talented collaborators are bo
nded together not by locale\, but by a shared taste and vision\, guided by
a musician’s internal intuition. Winter At Sea’s players on »Hearts
« include fellow Flies Are Spies From Hell guitarist Will Tomlins\, Andy
Selby (who also performs modular synth as Resting Pulse) and A. L. Lacey (
who has an acclaimed solo record on Human Worth)\, both formerly of Monste
rs Build Mean Robots\; and finally\, the newest collaborator\, Din Of Cele
stial Birds drummer Vincent Knight-Schrijver.“A fluid collective of wand
ering souls.” ~ Chaos Theory“Folk brushes post-rock and tips it into n
eo-classical with minimalist rich music which amplifies the volume as it e
nvelops the mind.” ~ Echoes & DustTHE CAMDEN CLUB is one of London's new
est and most exciting intimate venues (opposite The Roundhouse in Camden/C
halk Farm). Cabaret-style seating (plus some standing) with gourmet burger
menu available - please support the venue by buying food and drinks as th
is keeps venue hire prices down\, enabling more of your ticket money to go
to the bands. Tables are unreserved\; get here early for the best in the
house! Entrance is via a flight of steps up from street level and then a f
light of steps down to floor level. Please contact the organisers if you n
eed to use the accessible (fewer steps) entrance\, and/or if you require a
