SUMMARY:Unsafe: The Carceral Roots of the Anti-Trans Backlash - S. Lamble
LOCATION:Queer Britain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-conversation with S. Lamble to celebrate the
ir new book Unsafe: The Carceral Roots of the Anti-Trans Backlash\, an urg
ent discussion of transphobia in Britain and beyond. Twenty-first century
‘gender wars’ are based on the idea that safety can be achieved throug
h exclusion\, surveillance\, and policing. However\, Lamble argues that th
is approach to safety has distorted its meaning and contributed to the ant
i-trans backlash. Drawing on feminist and queer thinking\, as well as thei
r own experience organising against prisons and policing\, Lamble provides
a new view of safety\, one based on collective care\, radical solidarity\
, and transformative justice. Our Meet the Author series invites you to le
arn more about Britain’s queer history from those who are writing it. Ea
ch event features an in-conversation with the author\, followed by a post-
event book signing where you can meet them in person. You can purchase a c
opy of the book in our shop. Your ticket also includes admission to Queer
Britain Museum – explore our exhibitions before or after the event.EVENT
