DESCRIPTION:This course educates participants how to provide initial suppor
 t to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health condition or me
 ntal health crisis\, until professional help is received or the crisis res
 olves.\n\nYour instructor is Pip Cameron has been delivering MHFA courses 
 since 2017.\n\nPip has delivered this course and other courses to corporat
 e and non-corporate clients such as Ashurst\, ODPP\, Global Medical Soluti
 ons\, Blooms the Chemist\, MetLife\, Revlon\, Chanel\, SmartEnergy\, Penri
 th City Council\, Climate Change & Sustainability | Department of Climate
  Change\, Energy\, the Environment and Water\; Australian Pesticides and V
 eterinary Medicines Authority and many more.\n\nPip delivers this course i
 n a safe space as a mental health first aid conversation.  We will work to
 gether to provide participants with the opportunity to engage and learn th
 rough the quality skills required to be a MHFAider.\n\nPip has years of li
 ved experience and delivers this course with humility and a willingness to
  learn from participants.  Pip will demonstrate kindness\, patience\, non-
 judgemental listening skills so her participants will complete this course
  knowing the importance of looking after our own mental health and needs\,
  whilst being there for others and demonstrating acceptance and understand
 ing.  \n\nParticipants learn about the signs and symptoms of the most comm
 on mental health conditions\, how to recognise and respond to an emerging 
 or worsening mental health condition and the treatments and supports avail
 able.\n\nParticipants will learn:\n\n*   how to intervene early\;\n*   res
 pond in a crisis\;\n*   offer support\;\n*   reduce stigma\;\n*   improve 
 knowledge\; and\n*   improve confidence.\n\nWhat you will learn is how to 
 apply mental health first aid to adults across a range of common mental he
 alth conditions and crisis situations\, including:\n\n*   depression\;\n* 
   anxiety\;\n*   psychosis\;\n*   substance use\;\n*   suicidal thoughts a
 nd behaviours\;\n*   panic attacks\;\n*   non suicidal self-injury\; and\n
 *   traumatic events.\n\nAdults who complete the course become Mental Heal
 th First Aiders (MHFAiders)\, equipped with the knowledge\, confidence and
  skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when
  it matters most.\n\nComplete a short assessment in your own time at the e
 nd of the course to become an Accredited MHFAider.  Accreditation is valid
  for three years.\n\nLearning outcomes:\n\nUpon completion of this course 
 participants will be able to:\n\n*   recognise the signs and symptoms of a
  mental health condition in adults\;\n*   use an evidence-based action pla
 n to initiate a mental health first aid conversation\;\n*   assess for a r
 ange of crisis situations and provide initial support\;\n*   understand th
 e prevalence and impact of mental illnesses\, risk factors and treatments 
 and supports available\; and\n*   apply self-care practices as a Mental He
 alth First Aider.\n\nThis course is suitable for individuals\, workplaces 
 of all sizes and volunteer and community-based groups.  Any adult aged 18+
