DESCRIPTION:Sound Service Station is a guided listening experience\, hosted
  by Linga Sound.\n\nAn experienced selector will explore a genre / place /
  catalogue that is important to them\, in a 90 minute deep listening sessi
 on\, with time for your questions.\n\nThe evening evolves into a DJ set\, 
 with space to move / dance / talk / commune.\n\nIntimate\, low capacity\, 
 cosy. Listening\, learning\, moving.\n\n--\n\nIn the second of this autumn
  series\, SSS welcomes British-Khmer DJ\, selector and educator KomKom for
  a focus on Cambodian pop\, exploring the joyful sounds of the Cambodian p
 sychedelic rock of the sixties\, through to contemporary music that blends
  traditional Cambodian instruments with hip hop\, dance music\, and experi
 mental electronica. \n\nMusic has been used to both tell the story of the 
 tragic events of the Khmer Rouge era and in the service of cultural renewa
 l. Music connects Cambodian people to the past\, as well as connecting dia
 spora communities to the homeland. It carries the memories of the people a
 s well as looking towards the future.\n\nKom Kom is a resident DJ for Rebe
 l Soul at Shambala Festival\, and likes percussive bassy music from everyw
 here. She runs the club night DiaspoRiddim with Disorientalist and Palanca
  Negra\, which is dedicated to the music that is created when borders are 
 crossed and cultures are blended and reborn in sound. Kom has a monthly re
 sidency on Sheffield's Kitchen Radio with a show East Beat\, which is an e
 xploration of music from East and South East Asia and the diasporas. She h
 as previously had residencies for Sheffield's Mondo Radio\, and Liverpool'
 s Melodic Distraction\, as well as creating guest shows for Hong Kong Comm
