 causerie autour du film Traugott\, réalisé par Dirk Schäfer. Après la 
 projection du film\, une discussion\, en anglais\, aura lieu entre le prod
 ucteur du film\, Richard Wittmann\, et Merve Erdilmen\, post-doctorante au
  CÉRIUM. “Traugott” tells the story of Traugott Fuchs\, a German scho
 lar\, artist\, and poet who fled Nazi persecution and found refuge in Turk
 ey. The documentary traces his life between Germany and Istanbul\, highlig
 hting not only exile\, displacement\, and artistic creation\, but also Fuc
 hs’s lasting contributions to academic and intellectual life in Turkey. 
 As a teacher\, mentor\, and cultural mediator\, he helped shape generation
 s of students and participated in the vibrant world of émigré scholarshi
 p that enriched Turkish universities in the twentieth century. The film al
 so explores the afterlife of his estate\, now preserved at the Orient-Inst
 itut Istanbul. Through Fuchs’s biography\, “Traugott” reflects on in
 tellectual survival\, cultural exchange\, memory\, and the enduring value 
 of personal archives. « Traugott » raconte l'histoire de Traugott Fuchs\
 , universitaire\, artiste et poète allemand qui a fui les persécutions n
 azies pour trouver refuge en Turquie. Le documentaire retrace sa vie entre
  l'Allemagne et Istanbul\, mettant en lumière non seulement l'exil\, le d

 ie de l'intervenant Richard Wittmann is a historian of the Middle East and
  deputy director of the Orient-Institut Istanbul. He received his PhD in H
 istory and Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University in 2008\, after 
 studies in law\, Islamic Studies and Turkish Studies in Munich and Berlin.
  His research focuses on the legal and social history of the Ottoman Empir
 e\, Islamic law in practice\, non-Muslims’ use of Ottoman legal institut
 ions\, identity and conviviality in multiethnic societies\, and autobiogra
 phical sources. He has published widely\, curated research-based exhibitio
 ns\, and produced the documentary Traugott. At the Orient-Institut\, he su
 pervises projects on Feriköy Protestant Cemetery\, Ottoman autobiographic
 al sources\, Traugott Fuchs\, and Ottoman manuscripts from Mount Athos. Ri
 chard Wittmann est historien du Moyen-Orient et directeur adjoint de l'Ori
 ent-Institut Istanbul. Il a obtenu son doctorat en histoire et études moy
 en-orientales à l'Université Harvard en 2008\, après des études de dro
 it\, d'études islamiques et d'études turques à Munich et à Berlin. Ses
  recherches portent sur l'histoire juridique et sociale de l'Empire ottoma
 n\, le droit islamique en pratique\, le recours des non-musulmans aux inst
