  Sinn? Damit ist es vorbei. Mit Gustav Mahlers Sinfonie Nr. 1 beginnt die 
 Musik in Anführungszeichen zu sprechen oder in krassen Bildern. Was damit
  gemeint ist? Das muss man hören! Oder ist es normal\, wenn derbe Blaskap
 ellenklänge hineinplärren und ein Kontrabass »Bruder Jakob« näselt? \
 nBei dieser so klanggewaltigen ersten Sinfonie weiß man gar nicht\, wohin
  man zuerst hören soll. Auf das unangenehme Pfeifen des Beginns\, das »w
 ie ein Naturlaut« klingen soll\, also wie vor der Erfindung der Musik? Od
 er auf die falschen Kuckucksrufe der Klarinette\, eine Quarte statt der na
 turalistischen Kuckucks-Terz? Auf die schmetternden Fanfaren\, auf den wid
 ernatürlich hoch sägenden Kontrabass\, der »mit Parodie« bedient werde
 n soll? Ja\, es bleibt dabei: Es gibt keine Sinfonie\, die so endgültig e
 ine Epoche beerdigt und die Ohren durchspült wie diese „Erste“ von Ma
 hler. Nach dem Motto „Roll over Beethoven“ zieht er mit diesem Werk ei
 nen dicken Schlussstrich unter die sinfonische Tradition des 19. Jahrhunde
 rts. \n\nFür Lehrkräfte werden über das Netzwerk »Musik und Schule« f
 ür jedes Konzert Unterrichtsmaterialien zur Vor- und Nachbereitung der Ko

 the classical sense? That's over now. With Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1\
 , music begins to speak in quotation marks or in stark images. What does t
 hat mean? You have to hear it! Or is it normal for coarse brass band sound
 s to blare in and a double bass to nasalize »Brother Jacob«?\n\nWith thi
 s first symphony\, so powerful in sound\, one doesn't know where to listen
  first. The unpleasant whistling at the beginning\, which is supposed to s
 ound »like a sound of nature«\, i.e.\, like before the invention of musi
 c? Or the false cuckoo calls of the clarinet\, a fourth instead of the nat
 uralistic cuckoo third? The blaring fanfares\, the unnaturally high-pitche
 d double bass\, which is supposed to be played »with parody«? Yes\, it r
 emains true: there is no symphony that so definitively buries an era and c
 leanses the ears like Mahler's »First«. In keeping with the motto »Roll
  over Beethoven« \, he draws a thick line under the symphonic tradition o
 f the 19th century with this work.\n\nConcert duration: about 100 minutes 
 – without a break!\n\nFor young people aged 14 and over. Adult tickets a
