 people pass by — especially the weathered bark of trees\, marked by time
  and circumstance. When I draw or collage these textures\, I’m not docum
 enting nature so much as listening to it.\nUp close\, bark becomes somethi
 ng else: a landscape\, a scar\, a memory. These forms echo the ways we’r
 e shaped by our own histories. By enlarging these details\, I invite them 
 to shift into new territory — abstract landscapes\, emotional maps\, qui
 et reminders of resilience.\nMy work is an invitation to pause. To look lo
 nger. To reconnect with the subtle intelligence of the natural world and t
 he stories it carries in plain sight.\nAbout Janna's Workshop\nThis two-ho
 ur\, hands-on workshop invites participants to discover the artistic poten
 tial of tree bark - a material rich with history\, texture\, and expressiv
 e possibility. Led by Metro Vancouver artist Janna Kumi\, whose practice b
 ridges forestry expertise and contemporary drawing and collage\, the sessi
 on introduces participants to sustainable bark sourcing\, simple preparati
 on techniques\, and creative approaches to bark-based collage. Participant
 s will create a small\, finished artwork using bark fragments\, paper\, an
 d mixed media.\nKey Features\n\nEngaging introduction to bark as an art ma
 terial\nDemonstrations of preparation\, cutting\, layering\, and compositi

  has become a familiar part of the arts and cultural scene in Lower Lonsda
 le. Held inside an active gallery\, these evenings are about discovering s

 eeing the world around you.\nEach month we invite a different local artist
  \,both emerging and professional to bring their own artistic stories\, te
 chniques\, and inspirations.\nWe explore a range of mediums: From Textile
 s to Sculpture\, Watercolour to Digital Art\, Creative Writing to Drag Lif
 e Drawing\, Kintsugi to Recipe Zines.\nMany of our workshops use eco-frien
 dly\, low-cost\, and accessible materials\, making it easy to continue the
  practice at home if you fall in love with it. From paper mâché sculptur
 es to Gelli printing to plant-based weaving\, you will try creative techni
 ques that are sustainable\, affordable\, and hands-on.\nWhether you’re h
