 m Sir Gawain and the Green Knight . Axl and his wife Beatrice live in anci
 ent Britain\, the Romans have gone leaving friction between Britons and Sa
 xons. A dragon\, Querig\, breathes out a mist that causes amnesia\, making
  people forget their personal past mistakes. Mabinogion readers will be re
 minded of a magical mist that descended upon Dyfed\; of the Giant Br&acirc
 \;n\; of various ogres and strange beasts\; of Annwn and the Welsh Otherwo
 rld. Ishiguro uses Mabinogion-like images to explore how a society decides
  when it is better to remember past atrocities and when it is better to bu
