SUMMARY:Milton Man Gogh + Cosmos & Nawarra [ii]
LOCATION:The Junk Bar
DESCRIPTION:Milton Man Gogh Art as Catharsis and BIJF presents a night of
introspective (and sometimes extrospective) music from Milton Man Gogh\, a
longside special guests Cosmos Ensemble and Nawarra [ii]. Hot off the heel
s of their latest album ‘Fully Stretched’\, Brisbane locals Milton Man
Gogh are bringing their brand of hilariously un-danceable Jazz to the Jun
k Bar on the 22nd of September with the intensity of a mullet in a maelstr
om. This set will be filmed\, and everyone knows a full room looks more A
 E S T H E T I C. Cosmos Ensemble Cosmos Ensemble is a creative outlet for
exploring the many dimensions of improvised music. Heavily influenced by t
he music of Alice Coltrane\, and Sun Ra. They aim to continue building on
the sounds of spiritual-esque\, modal improvisation\, exploring fusion exp
erimentations\, minimalist approaches and ambient soundscapes. Nawarra [ii
] Nawarra is the new artist moniker of Magan-djin based artist (vocalist\,
songwriter\, musician\, producer)\, performer and educator Hana Macklin.
With almost twenty years of performance and education experience throughou
t Australia and internationally\, Hana blends her diverse musical language
with spiritual lyricism and yogic sensibilities to create her songs\, whi
ch spring from the cosmos and converse with Mother Nature\, drawing forth
imagery of environmental wonder and personal transformation. ??Vocally\, H
ana has been described as “transcendent” and “virtuosic”\, cutting
her bell-like upper register with rougher mid-tones and never shying away
from exploring the full spectrum of vocal possibilities. Hana enjoys bend
ing her tuneful voice to find microtonal nuances and employs the use of In
dian Classical vocal stylings such as gamakas to evoke moments of melodic
storytelling\, which she integrates seamlessly into her naturally soul/R&B
approach. Nawarra (?????) is an Arabic given name\, meaning "flower bloss
om"\, "light\," or "radiance”\, which also has some etymological crossov
ers into Spanish and Aboriginal-Australian cultures. Hana performs with a
variety of collaborators and band lineups designed to suit each individual
performance/tour. For the Bris Intntl Jazz Fest\, Hana will play duo with
Katie Randall on drums\, billed as Nawarra [ii].\n\nBoletos: https://tick
