 e play faced headwinds with a ban and the Censors went heavily against it.
  Playwright Tendulkar and Director Kamalakar Sarang were both targeted. Th
 ere were attempts to stop the shows. Maharashtra’s favourite personality
  P. L. Deshpande responded to the controversy in his own style and wrote a
  play called Bhagwan Sri Sakharam Binder. While it appears to be a parody 
 of the original play Sakharam Binder\, P. L.ridicules the hypocrisy of mor
 alistic society. The play remained untouched and upstaged till date. P. L.
 ’s humorous take never reached the audience. P. L.’s solidarity with T
