DESCRIPTION:Can a needle and thread change the world? Women long used texti
 les\, collecting\, and the quiet act of making to speak up\, preserve memo
 ry\, and stand their ground. On Saturday\, October 10\, 2026\, from 1pm-4p
 m\, the Museum at the John Brown House will host a unique art-based museum
  workshop that brings history off the page and into your hands.Led by arti
 sts Stacy Morrison and Elizabeth Duffy\, friends and creative collaborator
 s for over twenty years\, this interactive experience explores how women
 ’s unseen labor and creative persistence have shaped our shared story. F
 rom the struggle for women’s suffrage to everyday acts of resilience\, M
 orrison and Duffy show how simple materials like worn fabric and handmade 
 coats become powerful witnesses to history.After an engaging discussion le
 d by the artists\, participants will dive into the creative process and re
 spond to the workshop’s themes through simple textile art. No prior art 
 experience is needed\, just your curiosity and a desire to create somethin
 g meaningful.Visitors are invited to explore the Museum at the John Brown 
 House in advance of the workshop. A special pop-up exhibit will feature un
 ique textile pieces from the Rhode Island Historical Society’s collectio
 n\, such as embroidered samplers.Photographer and School of Visual Arts fa
 culty member Stacy Renee Morrison creates visual biographies that are larg
 ely inspired by Sylvia DeWolf Ostrander. Her show The Girl of My Dreams: S
 ylvia\, a 19th Century Life\, exhibited at the John Brown House\, recently
  received the AASLH Leadership in Excellence Award. Whether teaching\, pho
 tographing\, or creating unique garments\, Morrison uses her art to build 
 creative bridges across time.Elizabeth Duffy is a Providence-based artist 
 and visual art professor at Roger Williams University whose work transform
 s worn\, discarded materials into sculptures and installations. Exhibited 
 internationally and recognized by the National Endowment for the Humanitie
 s and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation\, her practice explores memory\, repa
 ir\, and human history through everyday objects.Workshop registration cost
 s $20\; $15 for RIHS members and students with a student ID. All materials
