ing in the very liberal upper West Side -&nbsp\; with the background of Ne
w York City's fiscal crisis and all the turmoil and lawlessness that went
with that.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;After finally saving up his own money to purchase
Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" album\, Diamond started to learn to pla
y the drums.&nbsp\;<br><br>Soon after he discovered punk rock and it was g
ame over. That was until he heard a rap mix tape and then it was game over
again. Once discovering Reggae through the influence of punk bands like T
he Clash and The Slits - it was game over a third time.&nbsp\;<br><br>He w
ent on to form Beastie Boys with Adam Yauch\, aka MCA\, in the early 80's.
While inspired by hardcore punk\, the boys listened all the while to ever
y new rap 12 inch that came out and eventually rapping themselves. They so
on began merging their many influences in what would go on to become a mul
 ti-record\, multi-platinum and multi-decade career.&nbsp\;<br><br>The band
went on to win a bunch awards\, such as Grammys\, the highly acclaimed Bl
ackshere Award\, a very spirited Brass Monkey Award and the key to Kansas
City\, Missouri&hellip\; though this is still shrouded in a bit of mystery
.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;In 2012 Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hal
l of Fame.<br><br>Mike D\, MCA and Adrock oversaw all aspects of their art
istic output from music production to co-authoring videos with esteemed di
rectors like Spike Jonze and Nathaniel H&ouml\;rnblow&eacute\;r\, to spend
ing countless hours on their live visuals.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;<br><br>In the ear
ly 90s\, Beastie Boys founded their own Grand Royal record label and magaz
ine\, creating multiple outlets to turn their visual\, musical and literar
y ideas and inspirations on full display.<br><br>Diamond continued to appl
y this aesthetic (non) sense to home design\, online content and even cura
ting a multi-week group showcase at LA MOCA called "Transmission LA- AV Cl
ub". The show was centered around the relationship of visual art and music
\, staged with Jeffrey Deitch. To bring this point home\, the show include
d a full music program as well as food by pioneering chef\, Roy Choi.&nbsp
 \;<br><br>In 2018\, along with his bandmate\, Adam Horovitz\, Diamond co-a
uthored Beastie Boys Book\, which told the story of the band in its own wo
rds and reached #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. A limited serie
s of live shows\, in which the two brought stories from the book to life\,
was captured in the 2020 film Beastie Boys Story\, directed by longtime c
ollaborator and friend of the band Spike Jonze.<br><br><strong>Have an MRG
