 kl Silke Schmickl is the CHANEL Senior Curator\, Head of Moving Image at M
 + in Hong Kong. She was previously curator at the National Gallery Singapo
 re and the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore\, a researcher at the 
 German Center for Art History in Paris\, and the co-founding director of L
 owave\, a Paris-based curatorial platform and publishing house for moving 
 image artists.\nIn her contribution to the major monograph Greg Girard: Ph
 otographs 1972 - 2026 (The Polygon Gallery and Magenta Foundation\, 2026)
 \, she writes about her collaborations with Greg Girard for M+:  a monume
 ntal slide projection on the museum’s façade based on Girard’s photob
 ook HK:PM\, and the live cinema work\, Hong Kong Made Me\, scored by the p

  Frank. This special presentation brings together Girard’s photographs a
 nd iconic 1980s Hong Kong film footage with Gong Gong Gong’s raw\, percu
 ssive sound\, evoking the Golden Era of Hong Kong cinema.\nFollowing their
  live soundtrack of Hong Kong Made Me\, which features songs from their d
 ebut LP Phantom Rhythm\, Gong Gong Gong will perform a short set of new m
 aterial to be released on their upcoming full-length album in 2027.\nDoors

 Gong Gong (工工工) is the duo of Hong Kong-native guitarist and vocalis
 t Tom Ng and Montreal-born bassist Joshua Frank. Formed in 2015 in Beijing
 ’s underground music scene\, the band taps draws on inspirations ranging
  from Bo Diddley to Cantonese opera\, West African desert blues\, drone\, 
 and techno.\nNg sings exclusively in Cantonese\, his lyrics merging experi
 mental storytelling and abstract poetry. Gong Gong Gong’s raw\, percussi
 ve playing techniques and harmonic melodies create the “phantom rhythm
 ” for which they are renowned. They also describe this sound as “chopp
 ing vegetables while riding a horse.” \nGong Gong Gong has been feature
 d in Pitchfork and the New Yorker\, and profiled by Bandcamp Daily and Int
 erview Magazine. Their debut LP Phantom Rhythm 幽靈節奏 was named on
 e of 2019’s best by Loud And Quiet and Aquarium Drunkard\, as well as on
 e of The Wire’s top 10 avant rock albums of the year. Their latest relea
