 “The Beat Goes On\,” starting with its proto-Summer of Love title\, re
 ferencing a different married couple trading lines over and about driving 
 drums\, the opening title track a meta-meditation on turning on\, tuning i
 n\, and dropping yourself into sonic slipstream.\n\nThe production is inti
 mate\, raw\, often hushed and deft but free-wheeling\, pummeling\, brushin
 g up against but never gratingly in the red. The record sounds timeless an
 d contemporary\, AM and FM\, a loose grip on the guitar neck and a drumsti
 ck on a downward trajectory at maximum velocity.\n\nThese feel like songs 
 that you’ve heard before\, like scanning the radio on a cross-country dr
 ive. Not as in a mixtape — there’s a real intentional cohesion across 
 their catalogue — but a freedom to stretch out and explore. The three pl
