The James Black Gallery is excited to collaborate with Hot Fruit Figure Drawing once again to host 5 Hot Fruit Figure Drawing events and we hope you can be there! Hot Fruit Figure Drawing (HFFD) centers QTBIPOC models and artists, and celebrates the full spectrum of intersectional identities. Sessions range from classical nude figure drawing, to drag models, to queer fashion as a form of expression. HFFD aims to create a space where QTBIPOC models are free to centre not only the figure as a source of visual inspiration, but also their energy, expression, and embodiment. The sessions will be facilitated by Judah and Odera Igbokwe. Judah (they/them) is part of MangoSweet, a DJ duo that runs QTBIPOC centered events. They wish for fun, snacks, and an apartment with a dishwasher. Odera Igbokwe (they/them) is a painter, illustrator, and movement artist. Odera loves to explore storytelling through Afro-diasporic cosmologies, Black resilience, and queering the archetypal hero's journey. HFFD is an off-shoot of MangoSweet's Hot Fruit, one of Vancouver’s first QTBIPOC centered parties. Those events included introvert hours and co-play activities such as drawing and gaming. HFFD naturally grew as an expansion of those introvert hours, and celebrates and explores the richness across the spectrum of QTBIPOC creativity. HFFD takes place on the unceded stolen land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. We not only live, work, and create on these unceded stolen lands, but we ask that all settlers interrogate their relationship to the land and how they can contribute to positive changes and the material conditions to Indigenous folks and Indigenous sovereignty. Additionally by attending this event you agree to not participate in racist, fatphobic, or ableist, violence or commentary. This is a body positive space, and we do not comment or place value judgements on bodies. Do not touch any models or participants without consent. You acknowledge that, by attending this life drawing event, you might be exposed to nude figures for the sake of observational drawing. Some events will be open to all ages, and some will require all participants to be 19 years or older. Every event will list what participants and audiences can expect. We discourage the use of your phone while the model is posing for the safety and privacy of the model. Even for costumed poses, do not take recordings without consent of the model and people sharing the space. All tickets are final sale. No transfers or exchanges!
