  • The Elgar Sinfonia of London under its Music Director, Adrian Brown continue their series of Concerts devoted, as ever this Season, to British Composers. Our first Concert this year Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Elgar Society. Our music making is supported by them in all ways and we are grateful. The main work on the programme is an Elgar masterpiece, his portrayal of Shakespeare’s ‘Falstaff’. The music vividly depicts the many sides of this corpulent personality; the relationship with Prince Hal soon to be King, the robbery on Gad’s Hill and the rumbustious lifestyle Falstaff lead. Elgar’s music says, in a sound picture of some thirty minutes, something totally unique, vivid and exciting. The second part of the concert will mark a London debut for the young and brilliant pianist, Sean Godden who will play Elgar’s rarely heard Concert Allegro. To “show off” our great composer’s unsurpassed skill in writing fantastic sounds for orchestra we perform his arrangements of a Handel Overture, a Bach Fantasia and Fugue and the Chopin Funeral March. To finish we will celebrate with miniatures by Elgar; ‘Carissima’, ‘Rosemary’ and a surprise. This Full Symphony Orchestra is devoted to playing our greatest music; the works are introduced by Adrian and, being one happy musical family, we love sharing this experience with our audience. Do join us for inspiration, enjoyment and fun.
