IT STARTED WITH A SIMPLE IDEA Back in 2013, two students and a designer in Maastricht wondered whether a party could do more than fill a room, and whether it might fill a glass of water somewhere else in the world while it was at it (spoiler, it can). That's how Love Foundation was born, a bunch of activists and artists who throw parties for clean water, with hubs from Berlin to Cape Town. We still believe that clean water is a human right and that dancing is allowed to mean something. OUR CoSy HOME NEAR BERLIN Three years ago that belief moved into Schloss Dornburg, a baroque palace in Saxony-Anhalt with Catherine the Great in its family tree (long story, ask us at the bar). Once a year a crew of volunteers turns the palace, its garden and the meadows around it into CoSy Festival, a small non-profit festival for downtempo and midtempo music and fine and intermedial art, where collectives from Berlin to Vienna build their own floors and fill old stucco halls with art, light installations and workshops. NOW WE'RE FLOATING OVER TO AMSTERDAM For one night CoSy and Love Foundation move into Waterhouse Studios, and we'd like to bring along everything that makes our little palace festival what it is, from the slow grooves and the art to the feeling that everyone in the room somehow belongs together. It also feels a bit like coming home, since Love Foundation first sprouted just down the road in Maastricht, and we're more than happy to dig our toes back into Dutch soil and get a little closer to our roots again, from sunset over the IJ until the city goes quiet(er). THE MUSIC Expect slow-burning grooves, deep midtempo and live electronics from IORIE (live, DE) MAAJE (DE) Oli Neate (SE) b2b JaMo (DE) Robert Romain (DE) Soso Klein (hybrid, DE) BEFORE THE FLOOR OPENS At 6 p.m. Katharina Lege kicks things off with a science-based talk on "Drugs & the Brain", before IORIE opens up his toolbox for a music production workshop (better not miss this!) ART & INSTALLATIONS At CoSy, art was never just decoration, it's half the reason the palace feels the way it does, and we're bringing that spirit to Amsterdam. Expect paintings, sculptures and intermedia works from our community spread through the studios and ateliers, alongside installations that react to the room and the people in it. One of them comes from SOWL, who has been part of CoSy since its very first edition, growing from castle projections to large-scale interactive facade mapping. For ADE he presents a new site-specific piece that turns human presence and shared movement into living, ambient light. Take your time, wander between the rooms and let the art find you, some of it might even be watching you dance. AROUND IT ALL There's food and drinks to keep you going, and since the rooms are more snug than spacious, we'll simply do what we do best and make it cosy, so squeeze in, say hi to your neighbours and enjoy being close to each other between the sets. THE PLACE Waterhouse Studios was built by DJs and musicians right on the water in Houthaven, and with its 14+ studios, ateliers and a radio stream it's a place where sound gets made rather than just played. A foundation raising money for water, in a house called Waterhouse, on the edge of the IJ? Call it coincidence, we prefer to call it going with the flow. Universal love. Water for all.
