Driven by innovation and advanced technologies, the continent offers significant opportunities for business and international collaboration. Kobe City is working to establish Kobe as a gateway to Africa and create new business opportunities for companies and businesses based in the city. As part of this initiative, Africa Month in Kobe, organized in collaboration with AFRIKA meets KANSAI , will be held for the fourth consecutive year. The highlight of this year’s program, Africa Business Forum 2026 , will feature the final pitch of the Africa Business Contest – Impact Challenge Award, where 10 finalists selected from more than 300 applications will present their business ideas and projects. The program will also include keynote speeches, business matching, and networking opportunities for in-person participants only. Building on trusted relationships within local communities, the initiative aims to establish a sustainable education model combining government support, charitable contributions, and business revenue. Omolo Roy Otieno (Kansai University / Kenya) Developing a digital marketplace to sell traditional handicrafts made by Kenyan artisans. By reducing profit losses caused by intermediaries, the business aims to increase income for artisans. Through intellectual property protection and fair pricing, it seeks to support the sustainable development of Kenya’s traditional crafts industry. Meiji Animal Health Co., Ltd. (Japan / Sustainable Agriculture) Working with local manufacturers in East Africa, including Uganda and Kenya, to establish local production and stable supply systems for poultry vaccines based on proven Japanese vaccine technologies and seeds. By transferring technology and expertise locally and reducing dependence on imports, the initiative aims to increase vaccination rates among poultry farmers and strengthen regional food security and animal health. 5. AKARI SAS (Japan / Sustainable Agriculture) Developing a digital agriculture service in Ethiopia that uses environmental IoT sensors and satellite data to predict optimal harvesting times and the risk of pests and diseases.
