MUBI and C|O Berlin present RaMell Ross’s Oscar®-nominated documentary Hale County This Morning, This Evening. The screening is inspired by The Heart of the Matter, C|O Berlin’s exhibition by renowned US-American artist Carrie Mae Weems. Weems focuses on people and their everyday lives, as well as places and stories that are often marginalized or overlooked in mainstream narratives. Ross follows this thread with his camera and, alongside his work as a teacher and basketball coach, spends five years creating a poetic, intimate portrait of a Black community in rural Alabama. Daniel Collins and Quincy Bryant are two young African-American men from rural Hale County, Alabama. Over the course of five years, Collins attends college in search of opportunity, and Bryant becomes a father to an energetic son.
