On the eve of this special milestone, CAFÉ Tarot presents a one-night-only course dinner featuring five Tarot cards and five courses of exquisite vegan cuisine. The theme is “Across Borders” — Beyond Boundaries. Throughout its long history, Tarot has crossed borders of countries and eras, encountering diverse cultures and philosophies along the way, before being passed down to us today. And we, too, continue to encounter new worlds as we cross both visible and invisible boundaries. Tonight, we will journey through five Arcana. During the dinner, a one-card tarot reading by Laetitia Barbier will also be offered. It will be an opportunity to experience the symbolic world of tarot through both cuisine and tarot reading. With gratitude for the past five years, we will celebrate the worlds we have encountered so far, and spend an evening imagining the worlds that are yet to come. In the event of cancellation due to natural disasters or other unavoidable circumstances, guests will be notified by email or telephone on the day of the event and will receive a full refund. ⸻■ About Laetitia Barbier Laetitia Barbier is a tarot scholar who studied at the Sorbonne and has researched tarot and divinatory card traditions within the contexts of cultural history, intellectual history, and symbolic systems. In her book The World of Tarot and Divinatory Cards: From Their Origins to the 21st Century, she offers a comprehensive overview of the development of tarot and other divinatory cards from their origins to the present day, illustrating how they have been transmitted and transformed in relation to religion, philosophy, art, and society. What distinguishes her work is her perspective on tarot not as a “tool for fortune-telling,” but as a form of visual thought—akin to painting, sculpture, and religious art—that reflects the ways humans perceive, think, and make meaning. Her activities extend well beyond Europe. She has given lectures and led workshops across the world, including in Asia and South America, continuing to present tarot as a universal symbolic language shared across cultures rather than confined to any single tradition or school. During her visit to Japan, a lecture will be held on Wednesday, February 19. This dinner, taking place the following day, is conceived as a quiet culinary experience—one step removed from verbal explanation—inviting participants to experience and savor symbols through the senses. ⸻■ Chef｜Tetsuo Ohira The vegan course for this special 5th Anniversary Dinner will be created by Chef Tetsuo Ohira, a leading specialist in vegan cuisine. With his boundless creativity and distinctive culinary philosophy, Chef Ohira has continually explored new possibilities in vegan cuisine. For this special evening, he will translate the symbolism of the Five Arcana into a series of exquisite dishes, expressing their essence through food.
