From writer-directors Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer (Save Yourselves!), Wicker is a wonderfully audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention. Adapted from a short story by Ursula Willis, the film is set in a quirky medieval village, where an ostracized fisherwoman (a magnificent Olivia Colman) commissions the local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband. When her wicker husband (Alexander Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life. Filmed in Budapest, its storybook world comes alive through inventive sets and costumes, down to the husband's handwoven body. Elizabeth Debicki co-stars in this whimsical, surprisingly tender grown-up fairy tale, which upends familiar notions of love and marriage while celebrating one woman's awakening to the life she truly wants. Q&A with writer-director Eleanor Wilson, co-director Alex Huston Fischer and Academy award winning actor Olivia Colman following the screening.
