HEARTLANDS Music Description The style of music now known as “Heartland Rock” began in 1967 with the formation of a well known four-piece rock and roll band named Creedance Clearwater Revival. Heartland Rock was often classed as a Roots Blues Rock sub-genre and developed organically through the influence of rock and roll with a splash of Country and a dash of Folk. Musically and lyrically Heartland Rock is characterized by driving guitars, raspy vocals, anthemic choruses and focuses on working class life and everyday resilience. FIRST SET Heartlands Rock Show dedicates the first set to the iconic Big 4 of the Heartlands , namely Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bob Seger and John Mellencamp. You can expect to hear some of your favourite music from each of these artists and we will encourage requests to add in to our future shows. SECOND SET highlights Creedance Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty due to their early influence that produced the Heartland rock inspiration. PLUS - a variety of artists and bands who are ‘acquired’, “inspired: or “connected’ to Heartland Artists and song writers carrying on the tradition from who they idol or collaborated with from the Big 4 List. Bruce Springsteen has created the main influence with current Bands and artists such as the Killers and Sam Fender. Don Henley is part of Heartland Rock by his co-writing connection with Mike Campbell, the long-term guitarist from The Heartbreakers Band. Bryan Adams is connected through his musical style, acoustic-driven arrangements and iconic songs that fit the genre's themes of open roads, working-class nostalgia and small-town reflections. Bon jovi is influenced by Heartland Rock due to their Frontman Jon bon Jovi who grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey, just 18 miles from Bruce Springsteen’s hometown of Freehold. As a high schooler, Jon performed a Springsteen cover at a local venue where Springsteen himself joined him on stage. Artists like Steve Earle and The Hooters are also featured in the second set and along with the guitars and piano, they integrated traditional folk and acoustic elements such as melodica (the hooter) mandolin and harmonica into driving rock framework. HEARTLAND ROCK - Female Artists were shaped by the same foundational pillars as their male counterparts. The Females, who are often Folk singer/song writers were influenced by pioneering blues and roots women and bandleaders (such as Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Larura Nyro, Bobbie Gentry, Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin) with their raw emotional vulnerability, stage power, and independence in a male-dominated industry.
