with soloist Madeleine Jones - BRIDGE The SeaSAINT-SAËNS Violin Concerto No. 3ELGAR Symphony No. 1Trinity OrchestraConductor: Jonathan ButcherViolin Soloist: Madeleine JonesLeader: Arwen NewbandFor our second concert of the season, we’re thrilled to welcome back inspiring conductor Jonathan Butcher for an evening of vivid and captivating orchestral music. We begin with Frank Bridge’s evocative The Sea, a wonderfully atmospheric portrait of the changing moods of the ocean, from a sunlit summer morning and playful shore foam to a moonlit night and a dramatic storm. Saint-Saëns’ dazzling Violin Concerto, featuring exciting rising star Madeleine Jones, brings the first half to a thrilling close. We round off the evening with Elgar’s majestic Symphony No. 1, a monumental and deeply moving work that won immediate worldwide acclaim. Its noble recurring motto theme runs through four contrasting movements, taking us from turbulent energy and a march-like Scherzo through a deeply lyrical slow movement to a triumphant and hopeful Finale. We hope you’ll join us for a memorable evening of glorious orchestral music.
