The Hayward Hawaiian Music Series continues its second season with another extraordinary evening of Hawaiian music, culture and aloha, featuring Hiʻikua and legendary Hawaiian musician Jerry Santos. Known for their beautiful harmonies, exceptional musicianship and deep connection to Hawaiian music and culture, Hiʻikua carries forward the traditions of Hawaiian mele with a sound that honors the past while bringing its own energy and artistry to a new generation. This concert also offers Bay Area audiences a rare opportunity to experience Jerry Santos live in concert. A founding member of the legendary group Olomana, Jerry has been one of the defining voices and songwriters of contemporary Hawaiian music for more than five decades. His work has earned numerous honors for male vocalist, composition, and traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music. Jerry penned the beloved “Kuʻu Home O Kahaluʻu,” a song that has become a modern Hawaiian classic and was ranked among Honolulu Magazine's 50 greatest songs of Hawaiʻi. He also composed Olomana favorites including “Come to Me Gently,” “Seabird,” “O Malia,” “Hoʻomaka Hou,” “E Mālama I Ka Wai,” and “Walking in the Queen's Garden.” “Come to Me Gently” earned Jerry a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Song of the Year composer's award. Jerry's appearances in the Bay Area are rare, making this an exceptional treat for longtime Hawaiian music fans and a special opportunity for a new generation to experience one of Hawaiʻi's true musical treasures live.
