Dates The Core Training is held in 2 parts, allowing students to put their learnings into practice, and come back with questions for the third day. All three days are mandatory to complete the PCAP Core Training. Please ensure you are able to attend this all three dates prior to attendance. Training dates and time: Part 1: Monday and Tuesday, October 5 & 6, 2026 @ 8:30AM-4:30PM MDT Part 2: Tuesday January 19, 2027 (VIRTUAL) @ 9AM-4PM MDT Students must attend the full training in order to qualify for a completion certificate at the end of the course.   The Training The Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) Core Training is essential training to introduce new staff to the PCAP Model and provide strategies for challenges you may face in your role as a PCAP Mentor. Trainers deliver the content in an interactive and engaging way, providing stories from personal experience in PCAP and related programs. Participants will receive a PCAP Training Manual, the Difference Game card deck, and handouts of information and resources. This training is appropriate for new frontline PCAP staff. If you have previously taken this training, there is a refresher training available online with more advanced content at https://alberta-pcap-training.thinkific.com/courses/alberta-pcap-online-refresher-training   Prerequisites It is recommended to take this training 3-6 months after starting in your PCAP role If possible, have mentors and leadership take different raining sessions to allow for open sharing   Location Central Alberta FASD Network 5214 47 Ave #101, Red Deer, AB T9E 5C5   Parking There is free street parking around the building.    Nearby Hotels Baymont by Wyndham Red Deer 4311 49 Ave Red Deer, AB T4N 5Y7   Holiday Inn Express Red Deer by IHG  2803 50 Ave Red Deer, AB T4R 1H1   iHotel & Conference Centre Red Deer  6500 67 St Red Deer, AB T4P 1A2   The PCAP Trainers Candice Sutterfield is the supervisor of the Mothers to be Mentorship program with the Lakeland Centre for FASD and worked as front line as a PCAP mentor for 7 year prior. Candice is well known in the community for her involvement and dedication with promoting community services and is a champion for change to programs that assist women at risk. Candice enjoys cooking, also taught cooking classes for 7 years with the CPNP program in Cold Lake and area. It was a win, win because they taught her so much as well. Sundays you will find her in the kitchen or garden.   Kelly Lepine, has been a PCAP Mentor with McMan South for 8 years. She works closely with both Indigenous communities and PCAP as Mentor, PCAP Trainer and now, as your Community of Practice Moderator. She loves working with her communities even outside of PCAP, but as the President of the Pincher Creek SPCA. She also works as a facilitator with Smart Recovery, Mending Broken Hearts and Generation Red Road.   Pricing The course is $495.00 + fees for general registration. A 33% PCAP Members discount is available at the members section of the Alberta PCAP website (members.alberta-pcap.ca). Ticket sales end September 4, 2026 @ 5PM.   Payment Policy The PCAP Council reserves the right to cancel any registrations if payment is not received 2 weeks prior to training. If a cheque is not received 2 weeks prior to training, the agency will have the opportunity to pay via credit card to maintain their registration. This is to minimize the losses absorbed by the PCAP Council associated with no-shows. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our operating costs down so we may continue to provide subsidized training and event registrations to PCAP programs across the province. Registrations may be cancelled by the registrant via Showpass up to 30 days prior to the first day of training for a full refund. Please contact [email protected] for cancellations between 14-30 days prior to the first day of training. Registrations that are cancelled within 13 days of the first day of training are subject to a cancellation fee. The individual or agency may choose to transfer the registration to another individual within the same agency up to 14 days in advance instead of cancelling a registration. After 14 days, the individual or agency may be charged a 5% processing fee.   Changes to cancellation policy in light of COVID-19: Cancellation due to illness up to one week prior to the training may be refunded in full minus cost of materials. Cancellation within one week of the training date will result in registration funds being converted to credit to the agency to be used toward a future training.
