Create your own fancy book and learn different binding techniques! You'll get to select your cover and interior papers, create covers and signatures, and create a different design every month with guidance from book enthusiast RJ.June: Slip knot art book. Create a cool art book with exposed slip knot stitching. Feel free to bring your own art on paper or cardboard (5x5") or make some here!July: Saddle stitch notebooks with slip case. Create 2 small books using a saddle stitch, then construct your own slipcase to house them in!August: NEW—X-Cross Softcover Journal. Using paper and/or fabric, we'll bind a journal with an exposed x-cross stitch on the spine.September: Lay-flat sketchbook. Use the Coptic stitch method to create a lay-flat sketchbook with exposed stitching to show off!October: NEW—Stand-up Hardcover Book. Using the back of a picture frame, we'll create a small hardcover notebook that you can stand up on a counter!November: Japanese stab binding. Create a softcover book using the Japanese method of stab binding.December: Envelope keepsake book. Create a variety of pockets to put your keepsakes, receipts, or fun trinkets in. Then, stitch them all together!January: Hardcover with French link. Create a small hardcover book with a hard spine and get your stitching in to create a French-link book block.All materials are provided and you'll create at least one book. Students receive a 15% discount on art supply purchases after class.Your InstructorRJ (she/him) has been passionate about books all her life. After working at bookstores, writing books, and even dipping his toes into a bookmaking business, RJ now makes books for fun and loves practicing different binding techniques.
