Alamo City Arts presents Symphony Viva in a richly varied program spanning English lyricism, Classical elegance, and vibrant musical heritage. Vaughan Williams’ Prelude to the 49th Parallel opens the program with sweeping, cinematic beauty. Haydn’s Symphony No. 92, “Oxford,” brings wit, balance, and brilliance from one of the great masters of the Classical era. The program concludes with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Symphonic Variations on an African Air , a powerful and expressive work that transforms a traditional melody through imaginative orchestral writing. Together, these works offer an engaging journey through contrasting styles, cultures, and musical traditions. Pre-Concert Lecture: Join Dr. Mark Rogers at 3:00 PM for a special lecture exploring the composers, historical context, and music featured in the afternoon’s program.
