Come Craft With Us

Come join us for a day of crafting and community building.
The craft circle at the Alcardo Andrews Foundation in Hanover Park is a collaboration with Hilda Gertze Studio. We are taking this collab to Stellenbosch so that others have the opportunity to come and craft with us. Not many people will willingly go to Hanover Park. Even dear friends will remark, “Hilda, what are you doing in that dangerous place!” Every shooting incident is shared widely in the media, but that is just part of the story of this community and many others in Cape Town.
The craft circle is a space to pause, a place step away from community work and caring for others to a creative space. We apply needle and thread to a piece of fabric and calm our nervous system. The frustration of learning something new and challenging quiets the story we usually carry, which we get to set down for a bit as our brains grapple with a crochet hook and yarn. We build connection, learn and grow together. We are now dreaming together.
You have a three options for how you might spend the time with us on at the BeHive:If you are already a crafter, please feel free to bring your own UFO/WIP to work on.Learn a new skill with us, like reverse stitch applique. You can buy a kit on the day or as part of the workshop package.Work on a joint stitching or crochet project.
We will have a light touch facilitation of community building activities and conversations throughout the day.
