Sho Asano, one of Japan's leading shamisen performers and folk singers, joins jazz musician Mao Sone for a program that brings together traditional Japanese music and contemporary jazz. Performing on shamisen and voice, Asano combines the sounds of Tsugaru shamisen and Japanese folk songs with Sone's piano, trumpet and jazz improvisation. Blending musical traditions from Japan and the West, the duo explores the connections between folk and jazz through original works, arrangements and traditional melodies.
